JGH Emergency Medicine Simulation Program

The JGH EM Simulation Program advocates simulation-based learning (SBL) as an adjunct to real patient encounters where clinical and communication skills can be enhanced through experiential learning. We use SBL to replicate clinical scenarios and supply rich opportunities to learn with action and reflection. Staff physicians, medical residents, nurses and respiratory therapists involved in simulation learn by interacting together and quickly appreciate that healthcare is a multidisciplinary team endeavor. In our state-of-the-art JGH Simulation Center, sessions are carefully orchestrated while maintaining fidelity with confederates. We address clinical and ethical issues, as well as leadership, communication skills and situation awareness. Courses offered will help learners become familiar with prerequisite information before simulation sessions.
