In this interactive and online course, the healthcare professional will learn the latest evidence-based knowledge behind hypertrophic scar formation as well as the evaluation and treatment modalities used in clinical practice.

On completion of Hypertrophic Scar Management, the learner will be able to:

  1. Describe the wound healing events/factors that are most likely implicated in the formation of hypertrophic scar.
  2. Describe the most commonly used evaluations to quantify hypertrophic scar.
  3. List the clinimetric research evidence that supports the application of high-tech versus low-tech hypertrophic scar evaluations.
  4. Describe non-surgical treatments used for the prevention and treatment of hypertrophic scar, the proposed mechanism of action, and the up-to-date evidence to support efficacy. ​
  5. Describe two sequelae associated with burns, itch and skin contractures.

Occupational Therapists and healthcare professionals who treat hypertorphic scars.

Instructors:

The course content is curated and presented by Professor Bernadette Nedelec OT, PhD, world renown researcher in the field of burn rehabilitation and Occupational Therapist, and Valerie Calva, erg., who has over 20 years of experience in the field. 

Presentation includes video demonstrations and resources on how to evaluate, treat and, educate patients who have hypertrophic scar formation.
